arts & recreation retreats
DiscoverAbility® strives to further enable the growth and development of skills and abilities by giving young people the opportunity to interact and learn from their older peers, and vice versa. Weekend retreats provide a stellar means through which to bring older and younger students together who share a common passion (albeit visual arts, athletics, cooking, etc.).

We have held weekend retreats at several rural locations, participating, for example, in the Creemore “Purple Hills Tour”. Drawing inspiration from the rural environment, participants of different age groups worked together to paint and/or sketch. During the retreat, participants are encouraged to interact with their peers, helping to make dinner, going for a walk or playing a game. This type of social interaction helps both younger and older students, as they are able to talk to someone openly about their artistic passion. Participants often donate their artwork to the DiscoverAbility Art Exhibit and Silent Charity Auction.
